Winterflood Business Services (WBS) was founded as a separate division by Winterflood Securities Limited in January 2010; in response to demand from both Winterflood Securities’ existing and potential clients. Having the backing and balance sheet of a robust organisation such as Winterflood Securities gives WBS strength and scalability while remaining totally independent behind a Chinese wall in our operational business. WBS’ key strength stems from a highly skilled and experienced team; our team of 20 people have detailed knowledge and high level of experience across the industry.

Winterflood Business Services (WBS) is catering to financial organisations and intermediaries such as asset managers, banks, financial advisers, institutions, life insurers, platform providers, private client brokers, and wealth managers. WBS seeks to help industry operators better meet the challenges of a rapidly changing regulatory and technical environment through the provision of bespoke and flexible dealing, custody and settlement services. The team leverages on its knowledge to help our clients and potential clients achieve their investment objectives.


Alex Kerry

Alex Kerry
Director & Head of Business Services

Alex has over 20 years’ experience working in Financial Services leadership roles across a number of sectors including Treasury, Wholesale and Wealth Management.   Alex joined Winterflood Securities in 2010 where he was instrumental in establishing Winterflood Business Services, becoming the Head of WBS in 2014.  Prior to that he worked for Barclays Wealth optimising the operations area and control functions of the businesses in London initially, then the Channel Islands, Cyprus, Gibraltar and the Cayman Islands. Alex previously worked at Citigroup working on new Client Implementations and Motorola Inc in Corporate Treasury. Alex was appointed to the board as a Director in 2019.


Thomas Lowe MSci (Hons)

Head of Product

After completing a Master’s degree in Physics at University College London in 2012, Thomas joined Winterflood Securities on a placement programme in the Corporate Finance team. He joined WBS in 2013 and has been instrumental in developing the WBS technology and proposition since.  This included various large client and system implementations including rolling out fractional share dealing of ETFs.  He has worked in various roles culminating in the Head of Product.
As Head of Product, Thomas is responsible for the WBS proprietary dealing and custody platform, EOS, and works closely with the business and clients to ensure the product and proposition remain cutting edge.

Graham Swan

Graham Swan
Business Development Manager

Graham has over 25 years experience in Financial Services and joined WBS in June 2017.  Having worked for share registration companies  in account management and business development roles, Graham joined Stocktrade in 2000 and was co-head of the business when it was sold in 2015.  Whilst at Stocktrade, he was responsible for all the major corporate relationships as well as management of the business.  Graham is focused on the business delivering high quality customer service and ensuring that communication with potential/existing clients is maintained to a high standard.
Within WBS, Graham is responsible for developing the business through new and existing clients as well as managing several of the key existing client relationships.

Edward Dickson

Head of Dealing

Edward Dickson joins WBS from investment manager, Charles Stanley, where he was deputy head of dealing. At Charles Stanley he was responsible for executing the firm’s general flow, but also brought his expertise to the firm’s investment trust department and supported its growing ETF business. Prior to joining Charles Stanley, he was an equity dealer at discretionary investment manager, Quilter & Co. (now Quilter Cheviot).
As Head of Dealing at WBS, he is responsible for the management of the WBS dealing department, ensuring all trades are executed in line with FCA best execution guidelines. Mr Dickson will also be integral in navigating WBS clients through MiFID II best execution implementation.

James Wharton

James Wharton
Head of Custody Operations (CF10a)

James has over 10 years experience working in Financial Services in Operations Management.

James began his career at Deutsche Bank in 2008 working within Prime Services to manage and oversee offshore operations. He later joined Renaissance Capital in 2011 as the Head of Settlements and CF10a, responsible for EMEA operations and the oversight of client money for the firm. He subsequently worked within the wealth management sector in CASS Oversight gaining expertise in the governance and oversight of retail client assets and money.

He joined Winterflood in August 2016 and is now responsible for the operations department within WBS and for overseeing the operational aspects of CASS compliance within the firm.
