Winterflood Business Services is featured in the Investment Week article: ‘Winterflood Business Services' Ben Centa: UK investors remain seated with seatbelts fastened’. In this article, Ben Centa, Senior Client Solutions Manager at WBS discusses how despite dramatic headlines suggesting market chaos and retail investor panic, actual trading data paints a far calmer picture. Using UK RSP data as a proxy for retail behaviour, Ben finds that investors largely remained rational and even opportunistic.

Instead, Ben explains that while some volatility led to short-term moves such as a spike and reversal in physical gold ETF flows, other areas like gilts and general ETFs saw steady or increased buying. There was no mass move to cash; instead, evidence suggests retail investors used April’s market dip as a buying opportunity, particularly in equities and US stocks, before profit-taking in May.
